25 February 2003: Bowling For Soup - Rock City, Nottingham, England, UK
Nottingham has a great reputation in the Rock and alternative music scene and the crowd that attended this gig shows that it deserves it. There were four bands on offer for a tenner and it don't get much better than that.
I can't tell you much about the support apart from one was called Uncle Brian and had some cool T-Shirts saying Brian Maiden in that style typified by the giants of metal. What I can tell you is that they were all fucking excellent and the crowd really got going which lifted the bands to even greater heights.
By the time Bowling For Soup came on I was covered in sweat and various other liquids that I don't necessarily want to think about that were hurled at the crowd. The lads from Texas treated us to a great show the mainstay of which were tracks taken from the album "Drunk Enough to Dance". They opened with "Emily", or at least I think they opened with Emily (they definitely played it), anyway along with "I Don't Wanna' Rock", "Out the Window", "Surf Colorado" (my particular favourite), "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" and the latest single, "Life After Lisa" and lots more besides.
This gig is what rock'n'roll is all about. Lots of people having a great time listening to great music played by people who are also having a great time. Nottingham Rock City is still the best. Even after attending gigs all over the UK and even one festival in Germany, no where rocks like Nottingham.
